Default 2000 Civic. Coolant loss from upper radiator hose housing?

I realize this is an Accord forum, but the old Civic engine setup was very similar to that of the other older Hondas.
Noticed some coolant loss and it appears to be from the gasket that connects the upper radiator hose housing to the engine head. I've taken a stock photo and highlighted the gasket in red in the attached photo. To my knowledge this housing has never been removed.

Anyone else had this gasket fail on their older Accord or Civic?

Thanks for your help

I haven't seen that on here for Accords. That gasket is on the engine block, so ~23 years of hot/cold cycles likely made it brittle.

Thank you. I'm guessing that the gasket is no longer available at Honda dealer and in any case the nearest dealer is a two hour drive. Did the research and I'll make a gasket from a sheet Felpro rubber cellulose gasket material and also use Permatex #2 non-hardening sealer.

If you have a parts store like autozone nearby, you might want to check if they have a fel-pro version for your Civic.

I believe that is your thermostat location and has no gasket but seals on the rubber piece going on the thermostat. I would replace the thermostat at this time with a Honda one. Aftermarket thermostats can have issues but it is your money to invest. You may also need a new housing,

I'm not familiar with the Civic setup, so I assumed the thermostat was like the Accord where the lower radiator hose attaches to the thermostat housing (to the left of the distributor in the picture posted above).

The thermostat is on the other (firewall) side of the engine. I replaced the thermostat a couple years ago. I agree OEM is the way to go. thanks

The photo I saw online looked like it was on the upper radiator hose

I researched and made a gasket from a sheet of the blue Felpro rubber cellulose gasket material and also used Permatex #2 non-hardening sealer on both sides of the gasket. Turns out there was no gasket between the block and housing, had only a sealant from the factory.
