2001 Accord Shift Slipping
Hi all. I am working on a 01' accord ex that's got about 126,000 miles on it and was just bought from a discount auto source center. The salesman said he was a Honda tech for 5 years and that it was a minor transmission problem. He said maybe the solenoid needed cleaning or the fluid changed. I did clean the solenoid, the first two that are merged together. It was filled with gunk. Just test drove it and it fixed nothing.
I don't know what to do now except change the fluid and im waiting on it to come in the mail.
So you guys think my transmission is trashed? I heard 2001 trans were notorious for clutch failures.
What would you do? Replace the transmission? Where should I get one if so? A remanufactured one?

we still have our 01 EX.
Bought it new, tranny replaced in recall by Honda when we had about 80K on the clock. Still going strong now with nearly 300K miles on the car and the fluid on the replacement tranny has never been changed.

I replaced the transmission in my 91' accord with a used low-mileage jdm one from a 96'. Its working great at about 18,000 miles. I am very seriously considering buying another one from them for the 01'.
Check it out. I paid $250 minus $100 shipping for the 96' one on my 91' accord, this ones more but i'm sure its the same value. Do you think I should get it? I mean, I am having terrific results with the one I got from them.

This is my first post and I just registered today. I bought a used 2001 Accord EX V6 and I am on step 2 of the transmission fluid flush process. I'm flushing using Valvoline Dexron III (temporary replacement for Genuine Honda fluid).
I want to buy the genuine, but I don't know if this car takes Honda Z1 or D1 fluid. Owner's manual states "Honda Premium Formula Automatic Transmission Fluid".
Until now, I have only owned Toyota vehicles, and I find this Honda's automatic to be a bit abrupt and rough on shifting, even if you "baby" it. Car has 120,000 miles. I've sifted this Forum for weeks and apparently this is a common Honda issue, and not just limited to the Accord models.

I am on eBay and Amazon and both are sold. If I find a deal where Z1 is cheaper than D1, should I go for it?

Factory is Z1 and the fluid in the car before the flush is original and is Z1. Since it's nearly impossible to flush out all old fluid, should I be concerned about installing D1 in a system that has never used synthetic?
The Valvoline "flush fluid" I used is non-synthetic.

I, other people, and dealerships have mixed Honda DW-1 with Z1 in older Hondas without issues. I also use it in my newer Honda. DW-1 is Honda's replacement for Z1 and is fully compatible/mixable with old Z1. While a drain and fill only removes part of the old fluid, if done on a regular basis, it will swap out most of the old with the new fluid.
The attached pic. is from a November 2010 Services News excerpt. DW-1 has been already out awhile and in regular use.
