2005 accord v6 p2647 code
 

New here and I have searched and searched the internet on this subject, but it seems to really cater to a 4 cylinder. So I joined the forum to figure it out(along with other things to be discussed in a seperate thread in the future).


So my wife has a 2005 accord V6 hybrid, it currently has 223000 miles. We bought the car @ 104000 miles, from the original owner. Its been well cared for and babied, with regular service. I did the timing belt @ 200000 miles.


This past week she was driving it and it started bucking and missing. When I got to her, I checked the oil and sure enough it was low. Topped it off and the car ran great for a few days, then started doing the same thing. It goes into limp mode, CEL flashing, and wont rev passed 3000 RPM. Oil level is good. Had Advance Auto run the code reader on it and got:


p2647, p0303, p0304, p0300, p2649


I believe the p0303, 0304, 0300 are due to the limp mode as these are mis fire codes.


So the p2647 and 2649 are due to the Vtec oil pressure switch. Does anyone have a part number for this and any good photos of its location? I believe I found it on the motor but want to be sure. Also, isn't there another oil pressure switch on these motors? I am going to replace the vtec oil pressure switch and anything else that is recommended here, along with change the oil and filter. It is just now due for an oil change anyway. Any idea why it is burning oil now(there are no oil leaks anywhere, no white smoke)?

Personally with that many miles just replace the whole spool. It's up to you.

Ok, mind if you share a pic or something of where it is located on my car.

Some videos show it down at the oil filter, but when I search the part number you told me it shows it up at the top of the motor on the drivers side. I looked last night and there is some solenoids up on drivers side top of motor. I haven’t look down by the oil filter yet.

Its on the rear cylinder head, #11 in the picture. I'm not sure why there isn't one on the front cylinder head, it must control the VTC actuation across both heads.

These parts drawings aren't always the best for showing exactly where it's bolted. Maybe it's mounted somewhere between the heads, and shown with the rear head just because they had to put it somewhere...

You have a oil pressure sensor and an oil pressure switch. The sensor sits inside the VTEC spool in the middle driver side.

Your switch sits on the oil pump by the filter.

The one causing your issue is the sensor sitting on the spool.

I took the valve assembly off, put a new gasket with screen in, cleaned the valve assembly and oil pressure switch, reinstalled, changed the oil and oil filter using 5w-20 synthetic blend oil. Still no change. Looks like I will be replacing the Vtec oil pressure switch.

I called the stealership and they want $270 + for the just the switch. The whole valve assembly is $690 +. Im not paying that kinda money. Does anyone know of a cheaper route? Found one on Ebay for $179 and then the usual knockoffs for around $20. My dad has a couple Civic 4 cylinders around, that are junk, and looked at getting one off of them but they aren't the same.

Well put a new spool valve with new solenoid on and the car is still doing it. Changed oil, new gasket with screen, and new spool valve and solenoid and it’s still going into limp mode.

Any ideas?

P2647 is for high voltage from the VTec switch. This connector has 2 wires going to it.

P2649 is for high voltage from the Vtec oil control solenoid and should have one wire going to it.

When you get a code, you should never assume this is a sensor problem, because the real issue could be the sensor, the wiring, or potentially the PCM. 95% of the time the sensor is the issue and replacing solves the problem. The problem is that you should always test before assuming a sensor is bad, because you risk wasting money by replacing working parts.

When you replaced the spool, did it come with a new switch and control solenoid?

Was there any work done on your car right before you had this issue going into limp mode?
