Hello all. The brakes are grabbing, it's a Mt and it will move but you can feel much resistance when pulling out. I haven't been driving it until I resolve this. I replaced calipers with no success so now I'm thinking it is the abs module or something on that system. Any and all advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

 

You'll need a scanner to get the abs codes to get a starting point on diagnosing.

It's also worth checking the wheel speed sensors and the VSA system’s hydraulic controls, as any faults there can interfere with smooth braking operations. I’d recommend running a full system scan to uncover any fault codes that might be present in one or more control modules related to this issue. You’ll either need to take it to a mechanic, but if you want to figure this out yourself, a full system scanner is essential. The youcanic full system scanner is excellent for diagnosing all systems, but there are other scan tools that can do this too. Just be careful to use a full system scanner, or you might scan the car and see no fault codes since some scanners can’t read all vehicle systems. So an update on this...I've hooked up a scan tool and there is absolutely no codes. I have now also replaced the front brake flex hoses. What's weird is when I took it for a test drive it was fine for a couple miles. It's a manual so I can immediately feel if it's grabbing. I thought all was well until I got back to driveway smd it's back to stopping itself. Any amd all help is appreciated

 

Unplug the electrical connector to the abs module to diable then test drive to see if your issue remains or goes away. This will tell you if the abs system or your regular braking system is causing the problem.

 

Wow, thank you so much. Can't believe I didn't already try this. Exactly the issue. Unplugged and it drove fine. Guess I'll be replacing the abs/vsa module now.

 

Your sepecific problem can be the module or an abs sensor/wiring to the ABS module is giving faulty information where the module thinks you need ABS. Any chance you have a scanner that can read live data? You could possibly monitor the ABS to see if a certain wheel is triggering the ABS to activate.

Odds are the ABS module is faulty, but you could replace and still have the same problem. This is where you have to decide to either throw parts at it or troubleshoot.

For me, I'd probably unplug each wheel sensor and reconnect the ABS module to see if you still have a problem. If the ABS still activates, then you can rule out the sensors. The ABS module or the remaining wiring could still be at fault.

 

I actually just ordered a xtool d8w

 

It started doing the exact same thing even with the abs module completely unplugged. I have also noticed the pedal seems to feel extra firm

 

So I got my new code scanner in. The only thing showing up is u0122. It relates to the abs vsa module. My only question is could that still cause the problem with it being completely disconnected?
