Default 2010 Accord 4 cyclinder

I bought my Accord new in 2010. It has used oil from day one. Does Honda offer to do anything about this issue? Is there an easy fix?

I've researched oil consumption problems with the V-6, but I haven't seen any discussion about the 4 cylinder.

Please offer what you know. Thanks.

How much oil does your car used every 1,000 miles?

It uses about a half quart every 1000 miles.

I've owned many different Hondas over the years; never had this issue before.

Is there a thread here for this topic? Does no one else have this problem? Do I have the only Accord that is burning oil?

Please give me some direction here.

Honda probably will consider using about half a quart every 1,000 miles normal, and not excessive. It is not uncommon to add oil between services.

Are you still under warranty? How many miles do you have on the car?

I have an 8th generation Accord and it does burn oil more so than my previous Hondas. However, it is not what I believe Honda would deem excessive.

If you are under normal warranty, Honda would have to do engine oil consumption tests on the car to determine if it is excessive. If necessary, they may replace the pistons and piston rings.

I don't believe there is a manufacturer on the globe which considers a quart of oil every 2,000 miles excessive consumption.

Quite a few years ago I had a Volvo 240. I put 284,000 miles on that car and then gave it to my son. It didn't burn any oil when I gave it to him.

Maybe my next car will be another Volvo.

Some cars use some oil, some do not. Some cars appear to not use a drop, but when you send the oil out for used oil analysis you discover the oil is diluted with gasoline and it is only an illusion the engine does not use oil. Like it or don't, believe it or not, it can be a good thing if a car uses a little oil, and I wouldn't consider a quart every 2,000 mile to be anything more than using a little oil.

I agree w/ Shipo. My 94EX w/ 250K miles does not require oil to be added during changes, but I notice the oil has a distinctly "gassy" smell when changed.

It seems virtually impossible for a piston engine not to burn some of the oil left on the cylinder wall as piston descends on power stroke and advances on exhaust stroke; high temps and exposed oil (not much but some).

Other possible sources of oil consumption are losses by the valve stem seals and of course oil leaks out of engine.

That said, occoasionally significant oil consumption will be caused by PCV system; blocked hose, sticky PCV valve. When this happens, the throttle body will have a very dirty and perhaps oily appearance. Oil laden vapor is pulled into the intake duct at PCV fresh air inlet (reverse flow during low manifold pressure).

good luck
