This morning, after a night of hard rain, my windshield wipers would just start up without any input, at the same time turning on the right turn signal. Also now when engaging the turn signal both signals go on simultaneously as if I had engaged the emergency flashers. Thoughts? Where should I start?

This is difficult, because these systems go through the MICU (multiplex integrated control unit) in the driver's fuse box, so electrical troubleshooting is challenging.

The heavy rain may have a part in this. Did the wiper/turn signal problem go away after the weather dried up?

I'd probably start by looking for signs of water leaking into your car especially near the driver's fuse box. Look for signs of corrosion (white/green crust) around the connectors of the fuse box. Also inspect the under hood fuse box.
