Hi,
I am having 2011 Honda accord,
Mechsnic has refilled the coolant in radiator,but not in the reservoir.
So can I top-up the coolant level in reservoir?.
What is the best cool and brand?

Can someone suggest me on the above.

Most any brand name, ethylene glycol based coolant w/ corrosion protection chemicals will be OK. Some strictly use Honda coolant and it is a good product, but more expensive than other choices.

Will it be a issue if the radiator contains coolant with different brand and the reserve tank with some other brand?

 

In the absolute ideal situation, you want to use antifreeze with the same "type" of corrosion inhibitor chemicals. Also in an ideal world you will know just what brand of antifreeze is in there already. Unfortunately, color-matching isn't absolutely reliable.

If they're different, then it gets more complicated figuring out which ones play nicely with which others. The type called "hybrid OAT" should be compatible with most others, but the important exception is the "DexCool" type. DexCool is usually colored orange.

So the common available Prestone yellow/green stuff today is hybrid OAT. That stuff is everywhere like AutoZone & Walmart... As long as the bottle isn't 2 or 3 years old. The hybrid OAT bottle says "compatible with all types" or something like that. You should interpret that to mean "compatible with most except DexCool".

Even if you mess up & mix DexCool with something else, it's not disaster. All it means is that the mixture will have a much shorter lifespan than what it says on the DexCool bottle. Like 2 years lifespan instead of 10.

I believe in "don't mix", the reference to dexcool above is correct, but in the fine print you my the find the disclaimer "do not exceed 10%". It's cheap insurance, just pick a good brand and stick with it.
