2020 Accord 2.0 liter oil consumption and flakes
I have a 2020 Accord 2.0 liter with 6220 miles. I changed the oil at 3000 miles (normally wouldn't do it this frequently, but wanted to get rid of any shavings from break-in). I noticed at the time that I did not get 5 quarts out, but can't remember how much I recovered.
Today, at 6220 miles, I drained the oil and noticed metal chips in the drainpan. There were not tons of them, but at least a dozen or so with a maximum size of about 1 mm long, and then. I only recovered 4 quarts oil, when I know I filled with 5 quarts last time. Being my first new car, are the metal shavings that large normal from break-in process and secondly, is anyone else losing 20% of their oil in only 3000 miles? I called the local service center and of course were fairly useless concerning this ("bring it in, but we'll likely have to do an oil change to verify").
Pennzoil full synthetic 0w-20 and Wix XP filter.

You will get shaving for about 2-3 oil changes depending on the interval. If you are having any issues take it to the dealership while you're still under warranty. When I bought my 07 I had noticeable shavings on the second change but after that nothing out the norm. Losing a qt of oil is not normal in 3k mi. You may want to go have it checked if you are sure. I would do one more interval just to verify.
I'm with sean, above, but go one step more. Since you're having these issues/concerns, bite the ($) bullet and have the dealer do the oil changes while you're under warranty, or until you feel free of the concern. If the oil level is low between changes take it back to dealer for a top off (likely free) and ask them to document the top off. This way the dealer will have all the documentation should a warranty claim be needed.

Yeah, as much as I like maintaining my own stuff, I plan to take to them next time and make sure they look for low oil recovered and shavings. I feel better about the shavings now, but not the oil consumption. I reckon the good news is that, unlike the 1.5 turbos, this one doesn’t appear to be letting fuel past the rings and into the crankcase.
