That sounds like a real good price for a new cat, installed. It's evenan OK price for the cat-converter, NOT installed.

If theyWARRANTY it to fix the CEL, go for it. If it turns out NOT to fix the CEL, they have to keep working for free to turn off the CEL, right?

We still need to know what the CEL code is if we are going to help you. I thought your mechanic said it was"carbon buildup underthe plenum" and was ready to charge you $400 to fix that? Why did he change his mind all of a sudden?
If you want help, post the CEL codein the other thread. If you want to throw away money, pay your mechanic to replace a bunch of parts and hope the CEL goes off. it's your choice
$325 is a terrible price if there is nothing wrong with the cat in the first place

It might be a sensor that costs them $5. After they charge you $325 for a cat, they may just fix what the actual problem is. If you trust them, go for it, but that price seems too low for a cat, install and guarantee ..... but then again, I don't trust mechanics.

In theory it's not too hard, just bolts & gaskets. But it's always hot, rusty, dirty. If they use salt on the roads in winter, you'll spend awhile under the car cursing at things while you break off the bolts.
