Default 86 accord LX 4door ANTENNA MOTOR PROBLEMS

My antenna motor has stopped working. It worked going down for a while now not at all. My problem is finding the motor that powers the antenna. Is it near the radio? Where can it be seen from and what do I need to do to get to it? I have the 86 Accord FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL but it doesnt tell me where the motor is, just what to do when I find it. Thanks in advance. Big Nick

I looked on ebay and found this part:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Power-Anten...9Zk97E&vxp=mtr

The motor is part of the antenna assy at the base.

My experience w/ aftermarket power antennas was disappointing.

good luck

Im going to try to repair the problem when I find it. My driver door exterior handle broke off the other day and Ive got a whine sound in the front end somewhere, maybe cvx joint. Everything at once it looks like. Thanks for your comment

ps the ebay antenna might work but mine comes up threw the driver side windshield post. Motor is way down in there somewhere im sure. Thanks

It looks like the motor is separate, unlike most other cars.

Seems like you have to get the motor (#19) from under the hood or in the cowl area. Then the antenna (#18) is removed upwards through the A-pillar. I don't have a shop manual to show how you disengage the motor from the bottom of the antenna.

Trust me on the 3rd gen (86-89) the motor is "forward" of the drivers side fuse box. Not fun

What? That parts drawing makes it look like the antenna & motor are over on the right side of the car?
But I've never owned one of those and you have.

Trust me Jim

I could go outside and crawl/twist my way down there and take a pic....it would be easier to take a pic from the outside of the car where you can see the ant right above the drivers door

Wait, I do have a bad pic from last weekend, we had snow so I had to take a pic ----in the red circle there is the "cover" where the mast would come out. The mast has been "gone" for a long time on this one....can't really remember a 3rd gen where I didn't lose the mast at some point

Funny thing - I happened to see an Accord of that-gen in a parking lot Saturday. Sure enough, the antenna is on the left like yours.

PS. You call that snow? The grass is still showing through.

Found the problem was in the up down switch. I tested it before with no results so I pulled it out ,sprayed it with electric contact cleaner then wd40 and all works fine. You would not believe what ALL I have gone threw just to find that. Thanks for yalls help. H3

Oh man, I usually like to tell people to first rule out the simple stuff before digging into a big job. Guess I got caught up in the discussion about the motor.
