89 LXi Cruise Control

I have a '89 Accord LXi (5-speed) and the cruise control does not work after I put in a new stereo. Fuses are all good. The master control light does not come on the dash when activated. I thought the light might be out so I tried to set cruise on the road and still nothing. Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

I've moved this to a new thread......the 6th gen thread this was in vs your 3rd gen are a bit different, don't get me wrong I like the 3rd gens :)

Sorry this would have helped....pry the switch out - from the left vertical side with "something". There is a 5 pin connector on it, remove the connector. With key on, check the voltage to the BLK/RED wire - it would be the "bottom wire/outside" when the switch is in it's normal position, NOT the red wires, the one on the other end of the connector- and see if you have 12v to ground. Use a pin of some sorts as the wires are kind of small......ps I just went outside and did this test on my 89 LXi :). Mine is a 2 dr coupe, yours?

Thanks again for the information. I will give that switch a look at and do some exploring. Oh, it's a 4-door.

Hello, I checked the black w/red stripe wire, there is power with the ignition on. I checked all other wires as well and it is the only one with power (I had to file the tester tip to a needle point) and I cannot get the master switch or dash panel light to come on and more importantly the cruise control will not engage...fuses are good, under dash and passenger side ones under the hood...any suggestions?

Sounding like the "switch" is bad......power in but not out. See if these test prove out. I was able to clean the switch on one of mine before. You should see the "tabs" on the switch to pull it apart.

I will give that a try...thanks again.
