HiYa, folks, got a 92 Accord with a 2.2 automatic .... 112K .. when in park or neutral, the idle "sits" at 1500 RPM's and then bounces down to normal idle, but then goes back up to 1500 RPM's and then back down..... this does it constantly..... I got pissed and floored it a couple times....and it quit for while.... is it some kind of idle control valve or switch? Can I get it from the dealer & install it myself? If so, any mechanical procedure available to fix it? Thanks for your help....awesome web site! ....

Do not re[place anything till you find out exactly what the problem is.. it could be a waste of money and time

look for a vacc leak,, chk make sure radiator is full , possible leaky fast idle valve ,, remove the cover and try to screw in the inner part ,,idle speed too high will cause idle to surge as well ..possible issue with iac valve

I'm having the same problem...does the rpm only surge after a cold start- or does it do it with the engine warm too? As well as following Desert's advice you should check your spark plugs for general condition and proper gap (make sure they are NGK). Also I'm going to try the following procedure soon:

check your coolant level. It will rev like that if your coolant is low. Fill it and bleed the air out of the system. That should fix your problem. Good luck!

 

if it is your Idle Control Valve you can clean it with intake/throttle body cleaner......usually happens on higher milage cars.......
