Default 93 accord lx sputters then check engine light comes on

I have a 93 accord LX. When I start the car, it starts no problem, then after it runs for 15 seconds it idles down. When it idles down it sputters like it is going to quit (it hasn't yet). It sputters for a little bit and then it will idle only periodically sputtering. The check engine light comes on also. I checked the codes and I get 9 flashes which indicates #1 primary cylinder (or something similar to that)....I don't have my book in hand while I am at the computer. Doing some researching I saw that this generally deals with the distributor. So I changed the distributor cap and rotor. Still get the sputter and check engine light comes on.

Basically now I am looking for some direction? I saw in a previous thread someone else had a similar problem. I think that title was "93 Accord Help PLEASE!!!"

I have not checked or verified spark to the coil. Any thoughts on what to check before proceding?

Thanks for your help.

That code indicates a problem with the cylinder position sensor in the distributor.

Follow procedure in the shop manual. The problem can be with the sensor (can't replace that sensor, you'll need to find a used/new distributor). You will check the resistance on the proper pins. It could also be the wiring from the sensor to the ecu (check resistance at the proper pins at the ECU). Also check the pins in the plug for the distributor.
