Default 93 accord no gauge backlighting

I have a 93 accord that all of a sudden lost gauge back lighting. The dimmer switch will still dim the HVAC controls and all other lights are working. I jumped the dimmer switch with no change. I replaced the blinker/headlight switch and still no change. One time about 2 weeks after it happened the gauge lights came back for one day and now they are out again. I haven’t taken the actual cluster out and I’m hoping to avoid that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think the next step is to pull the cluster and check the wiring for the gauge lights at the gauge cluster connector. Working off a non-US accord shop manual, the cluster lights get power on pin C5 on a red/blk wire from the combination (aka turn signal/headlight) switch. Pin C6 is the ground and is red that is grounded through the dimmer switch.

You can also try to check the combination light switch is sending power by backprobing the red/blk wire.

Google 62SN700.pdf to find the shop manual I'm mentioning.
