Default 94 EX. Brake light bulbs go bad very quickly!?

Anyone seen this issue?

the dash warning light comes on way too often, only fix is the swap the bulbs. They are the #3496 stop/tail bulbs.

sometimes its just one side, more often its both, Bulb holders look great, wires appear to be fine...what this all about??

thank you!

What I wanted to add is that the bulbs that "stop working" dont look any different to a new one!?

If you are using the Sylvania SilverStar bulbs, STOP. They only last 5-6 months, tops.

Check the alternator output voltage. Shouldn't be more than 16 volts across the battery posts with the engine running ~2000 rpm, headlights on highbeam.

Vibration is a killer for bulbs. Make sure light fixture is mounted securely.

good luck

Do the bulbs actually stop working? Is the filament broken inside the bulb?

its a stop and tail bulb so its dual filament. the tail light filament still works but the brake light filament stops working and does not look broken.

This is happening every month or so.

Sounds like the bulb fixture could be getting loose. When you insert bulb, the contacts give to allow bulb insertion and lock. Perhaps contacts are corroded or damaged.

good luck
