Like working on cars but it boils down to time and tools, don't have the time and don't have the tools!! Change my own oil and the only reason I do that is synthetic oil, cost about thirty dollars to do myself versus sixty, somebody else. They do good work and it's good for another ninety thousand miles!! Yes, it is a whole bunch of money but the car is paid for and thats better than a car payment every month!!

Besides it's a Honda and from what I understand, great motor and great transmission!!

Knock on wood.

I hear ya there, you need a whole bunch of stuff to do the job and a special tool to hold the crank pulley. Lots of time, and believe me a bunch of patience. If I had the cash I would have paid them to do it, but....

Heck ya, these cars go for 300K+++ if taken care of, and since you use synthetic like I do, it helps it las a lot longer. 90K between belt changes is great, some cars are 50K. Do you do your trans fluid or is it a 5 speed?

I wouldn’t recommend to anyone who hasn’t done timing belts to do your Accord. When I worked at a Honda dealer the mechanic that did the new (mostly AC back then) car installs and preps did one and it came back with a blown motor from the belt breaking.

It's an automatic and no I don't change the trans fluid, it's simple but just don't do it, get it done every thirty thousand miles along with the rest of the fluids. 300k now were talking

Yeah, it's a serious job, just my two cents but a book can only explain so much on a job like that, experience is a huge advantage with a timing belt change!! Thats something that is worked up to!!

That's why I did mine myself, I know how to. I wasn't paying Honda $1300 to do it. I would never partake in doing that job if I were not positive I were going to do it right, it may have been easy for me, but not for someone else not so experienced. I also recommend if someone is not 100% sure you can do it, bring it to someone who can, or you risk major engine work if it breaks or not aligned correctly.

A mechanic did that to one and it broke? Wow, was he fired shortly after....?

I just picked up a 97 wagon ex with 171,000 miles on the original timing belt!! I'm hoping to take this lady to Vegas as she must be the luckiest person I've ever met.

New tbelt kit with water pump and a valve adjustment and i can't believe the difference it made! A lot more power and no more ticking lol...

171K on the original belt, holy cows.... Very lucky. My wagon has only 71K on it, someone did the belts but I had to do them over because I had bad tensioner pullies. Car runs perfect, I too did the valve adjustment, love this car.

Is there a DIY for changing the timing belt with photos, etc. or anyone in Ohio that can do the job?
