95 Accord whinning noise and will not start

hi folks,

My son has a 95 accord and it makes a whinning noise when he tries to start it. The engine doesn't even attempt to turn over, it only makes a whinning noise like an empty blender. Please help with what could be the prob. Thanks

If a car won't turn over it's usually a bad starter. NAPA.

Check battery and connections are clean/secure, but I agree that failed starter is likely.

good luck

A whining noise "like an empty blender" might actually describe an engine turning over without any compression. Like a broken timing belt or bent valves.

When you try to start, watch to see whether the external drive belts (alternator etc) are spinning.

If you're lucky, it's a broken starter where the starter motor is running but the pinion gear isn't engaging the flywheel. In that case, the external belts will not be spinning.

Agreed Jim. Recommend checking the crank pulley while cranking it to see if it turns. If turns then bad belt etc., if does not turn then likely starter not engaging.
