Default 95 ex, gauge lights not working

Hi all, new to this forum, and I just purchased a 95 Accord EX, and just found out about this problem... I have done some reading, but haven't found a definite answer, or found info on the issue for cars 98 and newer. When the headlights are turned on, the gauge cluster does not illuminate and the clock dims from normal brightness. There is an aftermarket radio installed and it works normally and does not dim, probably because there is no dimmer option and the wire is disconnected. I will take a look behind the radio wiring tomorrow. Turning the dimmer **** does nothing. Not sure where to go with this. I checked all the relevant fuses. All exterior and interior lights work except for the gauge cluster. The HVAC lights work.

I have read about the multiplex unit failing, but does this model year have that? Am I looking at replacing the dimmer switch? Checking all the wires? Any insight would be helpful, as electronics are not my forte.

Carefully pry out that dimmer **** assembly. Unplug the connector.

The black wire should have continuity to ground (zero ohms reading). The red/blk wire should have 12V when the headlight switch is ON.

If you connect the red wire to ground with the headlight switch on, the lights that are giving you a problem should be bright. If that all checks out, then replace that switch.

It is indeed a faulty dimmer switch, thank you for your quick response and your insight. It is greatly appreciated!
