have a 96 4dr seden accord ex 2.2 vtec abs (abs doesn't work). Bought 10yrs ago with 32k miles on it. Drove it until about 200k with original rotors. Bought some decent drilled rotors and ceremic pads and replaced...was a real pain in the butt! Those lasted about 25k miles until they were warped. Figured it was because I didn't torque everything. So I bought the top of the line rotors and pads from napa and did the job again. This time I torqued everything exactly to spec even the hub nut. 13k miles later and these are warped.

only wobbles when I use the brake pedal and not when I use E brake

I would suspect crap rotors from napa but the drilled rotors before these also went bad.

only thing I can think of at this point is that on the driver side the hub is siezed into the knuckle and maybe that needs to free float slightly...since the 4 bolts that are supposed to hold it on are only like 35 ftlbs torque? (when I say seized I mean we could not separate it from the knuckle with a 40 ton press)

 

You said you get wobble, do you also get steering wheel
vibrations at the same time?

I went through this with my old '93. The key seems to be just putting up the cash and getting the Honda rotors. They last much longer (your originals lasted 200K) and stay relatively straight. I too bought the "Best" rotors from the aftermarket store but ended up going back with Honda rotors (and pads). They just work so much better.

 

steering wheel shakes as well when braking.

 

simply warped rotors as you originally thought. Get the Honda rotors and be done with it. Most aftermarket companies use softer metal and that makes it easier for the rotors to bend/warp.

 

Wheel Wobbles and Steering Wheel Vibrations..are also commonly
associated with damaged tires worn tires, dented wheels and also suspension components that are wearing or have worn out.

However, wheel wobble can occur from Worn Hub Bearings that were
originally installed without useing a Torque Wrench correctly or not
at all. Over tightning a spindle nut for instance , may Load the bearing increasing wear and wobble.
Recheck and torque ...

where would I get honda rotors and pads?

are there any other suspension parts that might be worn that would cause the rotors to warp BESIDES the hub/bearings?

hmm maybe I should just do that conversion to the 98' style. Anyone have a link to a decent price kit to do that?

also would the hub being seized to the steering knuckle have anything to do with the rotors warping? Remember I tried to separate it with a 40 ton press. heh This seems possible considering the 4 retaining bolts that bolt in from the rear are only like 35 ftlbs torque

 

hi i had same problem with my 96 accord and the best was ac delco rotors and raybestos pads

 

dont buy the cheap *** wearevers from advance and maybe upgrade to ceramic pads, i was short on cash and bought the wearever junk replaced both front twice in a three month period,am good now with just a couple more dollars on the federated rotors and ceramic pads. possibly check your brake hoses see if they are collapsing?
