Youre better off having the EGR working, then fix the idling problem by properly setting up the idle-control. Look in DIY for a post about setting the base idle.

Hey guys,

When egr vacuum is connected, but the lift sensor and control solenoid are electrically unhooked, car runs fine (w/ a little less gas mileage than it might have, I think, but a **ll of a lot better than it was before I cleaned the egr chamber). However, when I plug the lift sensor and control solenoid electrical connectors back up, it has problems idling and runs almost as if it is missing a cylinder -- nice sulfurous? smell from exhaust too... Holding foot on brake until able to go, then motoring down the road is fine...

I'm going to TRY to find test specs and procs for the lift sensor and control solenoid from All(sometimes the right)Data and test the components and report back.

Thanks guys, Ernie

I'm with the egr solenoid...again if it (or something else) is letting vac go to the egr valve at idle or the wrong times.....bad things happen.

Keep on topic, the car

Hey Poorman212,

I agree that the next step is the control solenoid and unless you tell me otherwise it seems it'll be easier to replace it than test it (I will ask the local parts house if they have the harness and can test it, but I'm not holding my breath...).

Best regards and thank you for your help.

One thing that just came to me, yes I'm slow. With everything together, car to normal op temp and at idle, pull the vac hose off the egr and see if there is vac present (I think that is #16 hose)?

You're correct, we should keep this thread on topic. As such I made some edits, anything else we can cover in PM's.

Thanks

Okay. I ante'ed up the $100 for the control solenoid, added about $10 worth of other stuff, applied Advanceautos Retmenot124 discount code and walked out the door for $75 total, then...

Immediately installed it in the parking lot and am happy to say that my opus is over. Problem fixed. Unless testing brings up another problem with the egr or the cel.mil.idiot light comes back on (it hasn't yet).

Thanks a couple mil, folks, for all your help and suggestions.

Poorman212, pm me if you want to pursue our other topic if you would, please. (I don't want to push...)

Roger that. Man, this one had me really sweating. I like to think of myself as someone who knows a few things about cars, been doing it twenty five years, shade tree (when one was available). well, I do it much less now due to all the other stuff, but...

I really hate it when one of 'em hands me my a-, er, hiney on a platter like this did.

I suppose the upside of it is that I found all the performance robbing issues in the car and set the wear clock back on some other components (like fuel pump) I may be physically unable to change on down the road...

I really really appreciate you all's help.

Thanks again!
