As of late I have had to dump a whole bunch of money into my car. New timing belt, water pump, gaskets... tires, brakes... and now the P0740 sensor is on... The thing I don't get is my tranny runs fine... it shifs with ease, no problems... but now when I'm driving my car turns off. Just shuts itself off... and I have to pull over and start it again... then it runs rough... I'm at a loss here, can anyone give me some tips?

The stalling may not be related to the P0740 trouble code. The stalling may be due to a bad ignition switch, igniter, or coil.

P0740 is failure of the torque converter to lockup. This is a hydraulic fault and may be an internal fault. The lockup solenoid can cause this problem only if it sticks in closed position (lockup disabled). You can pull the solenoid and check the inlet/outlet screens for debris. If that doesn't fix the problem, you will likely have to live w/ the fault. It only affects torque converter lockup and does not cause any other problems.

When engine stops and starts w/ rough condition, check immediately for MIL codes. See DIY forum for guidance on extracting codes.
