Default 98 Accord EX oxygen sensors identical?

Hi,

Are the two oxygen sensors around the catalytic converter exactly the same part? If so, I think I will swap them to see if the problem follows the swap, or stays at the rear sensor.

If the former, I'd know I have a bad sensor. If the latter, I'd know it's a bad CC.

Amirite?

If you get a universal one, you have to splice the wires...they are the same.

Thanks but does anyone know for sure if the oxygen sensors on this 98 Accord are the same part? As in the same part number.

I keep seeing differentiation between them at places like Autozone... they call one "upstream sensor" and the other one "downstream sensor"...

If they aren't the same part, then I can't swap them for testing.

O2 sensors are likely same (4-wire sensors), however harness lengths and bulkhead grommets (on harness) are likely in different positions.

Check majestichonda.com for part nos. If different part no, part is different. You may be able to visually determine from graphic of parts.

good luck

F23a1 has two narrow band sensors

F23a4 has an upstream wideband sensor and a downstream narrow band sensor.

They might not be the same part number but if you have the F23a1 then it doesn't matter. If they want something like 200-300 for the sensor then they have probably looked up the wideband.

Yes, I assumed the OP's car had an O2 and not an Air/Fuelt sensor (wide band).

According to Denso's site the universal (no pig tail) is the same part number for the upstream and down stream.....again you have to splice the wires.

F23a1 ...... how do I find out if that is my engine? Is there a sticker somewhere on the car that says "I am an F23a1!" ?

I have a 98 Accord EX 4-cylinder

You can put your cars VIN into one of the many online honda dealers sites (majestic, bernardi, ect) and look up the o2.

Pretty sure there is a stamping on the engine block with the info.

Also I think the valve cover has something like SLEV on it?

I added some info to my post before about the O2, denso has the universal the same for the non SLEV (non air/fuel) o2's front and rear.
