Default 98 Accord Lx

Sorry new to asking for help on forums. I have a 98 Accord with 95k miles on it. This morning the speedometer didnt move until after I drove about 5 miles. At the same time the check engine light came on. It still drove fine and I didnt notice anything else wrong. Any ideas of why this is happening?
Thanks for any input!

The check engine light coming means the engine computer detected a code. You can stop by an autozone and have them scan for the code. Post the code on here. Codes start with the letter P and have four numbers.

My guess is that your speed sensor is the problem, but you should do the diagnostics before you blindly replace a part.

Another indication of a bad speed sensor is that the cruise control will not work when the speedometer is not working.

x2 on the diagnostics.

However my money is on the speed sensor if the CEL came on (and if the cruise doesn't work)

Post the code and we'll let you know what it is

Thanks, does autozone charge a fee for this and if so how much?

Its a free service. Just get the actual code from them and not the description. The description can be very general, but the code will be much more accurate.
