My car starts doing a hard rock at about 40 mph. The rpms stay consistent and so does my speed, the car just almost feels like it is rocking side to side. Wheels are all fine. Any idea? Car has about 175 k auto trans, not pulling CEL

My first thought is something loose in the suspension. Look for loose balljoints, suspension bushings, etc. Or take it to an alignment shop & have them look for that stuff. If you don't ask them to, they might not(?) notice.
Happened again today. Pulled it into neutral, same thing. Gave it some gas, no misfires motor builds and drops steady. Definitely starting to lean more towards suspension problem. I just would think if it was one part of the suspension or steering, the bumping would focus on 1 side, it seems to be even.
Finally had time to look at it today. Found the lower ball joint front passenger had about 1/5 inch of play in at and a pealed bushing. Also saw the inner cv boot has a slit in it. Grease around everywhere. Ive never changed a boot. Will i have to pull the shaft to do it? Also any tips for replacing the lower joints(gunna do both side) is appreciated thanks
Looks like maybe the lower balljoint is part of the steering knuckle? Anyone know if that's replacable for a 1998??

Gotta pull the axle shaft to replace the boot. I've seen split boots that you glue together around the shaft, but never heard anyone say good things about their lifespan.
