Default 99 Accord EX suddenly won't start - fuse or starter?

Drove car (99 accord ex) this morning, started fine, then this afternoon won't start, doesn't turn over at all, battery seems finebad fuse, or bad starter?
if it's a bad fuse, which one? the manual doesn't tell you which fuse controls starting/ignition

More details and be precise.

Does starter turn the engine over or not? If no engine turnover, do you hear any clicks from the starter solenoid?

Fuse is possible but unlikely. If fuse is problem there will be numerous other circuits inoperative.

good luck

Two quick checks:

If you have a multitester - test battery at terminals. Full charge is 12.66v, cannot be below 9.6V.

If tests ok - clean the battery terminals and connectors - EVEN IF THEY LOOK CLEAN FROM THE OUTSIDE.

P.S. even if the lights work - there could still be a severly discharged batt or bad connection?

doesn't turn over the engine at all. it's as if when you turn the key to the 3 spot, it's no different than 1 or 2 spot - just nothing at all...

tried jumping it last night - didn't do a thing for it...

Agree you should confirm battery has ~ 12.6 volts. If battery is OK, then following should be checked.

You need to check the wire (blk/wht earlier years) to the starter that powers the solenoid. This wire should have 12V when the keyswitch is turned to START position. If not, the keyswitch assy is the problem (likely) or see following. If you have 12V, the solenoid driver is open. Some solenoids can be replaced, most require the starter to be replaced.

Is there any type of security system that could disable the starter? This would also prevent voltage to starter solenoid.

good luck

going to take it in to a honda service station. didn't appear to be a fuse problem...

it does have whatever standard security system comes with a honda. that suggestion makes me wonder... how could I check that, turn it off, if that's what's doing it?

Check first to see if you're getting 12V to the starter. If not, then check security system relay to see if it's open.

Usually security system is reset by locking/unlocking vehicle.

good luck

Maybe the ignition switch?

I would certainly check the igntition switch, even to just rule it out.

Have you tried using a diferent key (i.e. one of the spare keys) to rule out a faulty security chip in the key?
