Default 99 accord will not start, smelling gas fumes

I need help, please! Issue: ignition clicks, but car will not start. I've noticed that when my gas gage reaches close to E. my car starts but it jumps from 0-1 when it reaches 1 it idles out. Then a couple of days with this my car doesn't start. I start to smell gas fumes. I need solutions. thank you very much!

Your description is confusing. Not sure what you mean by ignition clicks, and what is going from 0-1.

On a normal startup:

When you turn the key to the II position and don't try to start the car you should hear several clicks from the main fuel relay. You should also hear the fuel pump turn on for ~2 seconds. It is a faint buzzing/whirling sound that comes from the back seat, so listen carefully. The check engine light should turn on for about two seconds too.

When you turn the key forward, the starter will turn the engine. When the engine fires up, that is when you normally release the key. When the engine is running, it may idle at 1000 rpm at first, then slowly drop to ~750 rpm.

With that terminology, can you describe what is happening.

Also, does the check engine light turn on after you start the car?

from 0-1000 rpms (0-1), it jumps until it gets past 1000rpms then it will run smoothly. The check engine lights blinks and then stays on.

If you can drive the car, have the code(s) scanned at a parts store like autozone.

You said it just clicks... So the starter does NOT spin the engine?

i believe it only clicks because my battery is running down. when my battery is strong. the engine turns, it just won't start. It tries to start but it won't that's when i smell gas.

Let me help a lil cause i think that i can explain. Im have the same problem with my 2000 Honda Accord LX F23A1 4cyl. 2.3L, And you can smell gas when you try and start it but it wont turn over correct? It "acts" like its gonna start but never cranks.

Is this the same problem your having?

Yes, that was the problem and the solution was "new spark plugs". once they were wired the car started right up! thanks
