Default ac diagnoses step by step

Please explain to me like an infant. AC never worked. I want to fix it. Where do I begin?

More information for us.

Are you comfortable with electrical troubleshooting & repair? Thats the place to start.

Working with the refrigerant system means buying some expensive equipment. More practical to fix (or rule out) electrical problems then take it to a shop.

How do you want to do this? Theres a few people on here that are much better than me with the refrigerant side of things.

Check that the fan and compressor clutch work first.

I would just be searching old threads if it would work. How do I test the clutch? and I'm not expert at electric, but I can give it a shot (shock)!

Have someone sit in the car and turn the AC on and off, you should see the pulley engage and disengage the compressor. With the car and AC on, both fans should spin.

okay, I'll give it a shot in about an hour. If the clutch does not engage, what is it then a matter of?

Other possibilities...

Refrigerant leaked out = pressure switch prevents the compressor from switching on. In that case you need to find& fix the leak.

Electrical problem = lots of possible places. Bad relay, bad switch, loose wiring, etc, etc...
