AC Valve Core Leaking

Ok so I filled my ac about a month ago after replacing the condensor and compressor, now It stopped working again. The compressor kicks on and runs, but I get no cold air out of the vents.

My pressures are:

Low: 5psi

High: 95psi

I know these are not good and indicate a leak. The only place that I know I had a small leak was the low pressure valve core. Could it leak out in one month like that?

It's possible the leak is from schrader vavle, but unlikely if the valve caps were in place and tight.

Look for oily/dirty spots on condensor face, around connections, hose crimps, and around rotation plane of compressor clutch.

If you find a dirty ring around the compressor clutch rotation plane, a leaking compressor shaft seal is the problem. It can be replaced, but will require compressor removal. If you find this I can give some tips on sourcing the seal and installation.

Also, the expansion valve orings are prone to leak w/ age. Replacement requires pulling the evaporator box, a fairly large task, but not too hard on most Accords.

Put your Accord description in your signature line.

good luck

Was a vacuum leak check performed when vacuuming for charging? This should have disclosed a leak.

Check all connections that were re-made. Soap solution will work as long as there's internal pressure above ambient.

good luck

Oh I'm sorry its a 1991 Honda Accord. I replaced all of the orings through the system. I also added some uv dye and nothing lights up.

I did NOT have caps on the schrader valves, would that be the issue? Should I just refill and put caps on.

I pulled a vacuum when I filled and I had no drop in vacuum for an hour when I let it sit with the gauges on.

Check the compressor clutch rotation plane carefully. I've seen a one-way leak on these shaft seals. Other than that, the leak must have developed post-repair, not unheard of but unusual. Solution in any case is to find the leak.

good luck
