accord 2000 4cyl. outer cv joint boot replacement
hello
i need to replace the outer cv joint boot. in Haynes it says that the outer cv joint can't be removed from the shaft, so you have to remove first the inner joint. but the parts catalogue indicates there is an outer cv joint as a spare part. so what's the truth? |

Someone on here posted a link to some good quality aftermarket axles. Maybe they'll post it again for you. |
I've replaced a lot of those boots on VWs & Saabs. For some reason with Honda it's almost less expensive to replace the axle where some other cars its very expensive to replace the axle.

Replacing a CV boot is easily the messiest job I have ever undertaken. All for naught as wear from loss of grease damaged the parts. My first and last CV boot replacement.
A new axles is < $100 and easy to install. good luck |
a new axle isn't relevant for me.
i've seen here those axles that sell for $69 etc. i guess you can't get anything more than crap for this price. anyhow i'm from israel so sending them over here will cost 3 times more, and a new axle at the local dealer is about $900. |
Wow, even the Saab axles aren't that much. That certainly changes the economic decision.
I'd forgotten that you're in Israel. |

Here's the parts drawing. Looks like you CAN remove the outer CV joint.
I guess the retaining clip #13 might be accessible by flexing the CV joint way over. Then remove the axle from the spider of the outboard joint. #3 is the boot-kit, about $28 here in USA. But the whole axle is about $400 from a dealer here... Someone already warned you that if the boot is already torn, the joint might already be damaged by dirt getting in there. Like I said, I've replaced those boots, but they were only beginning to get surface cracks & nothing actually was split open. It's a very messy job. |
i found an online manual that someone linked in this site where they show it can be removed with a sliding hammer.

OK then I guess the clip #13 just snaps into an internal groove? That sounds similar to how the inboard end of the shaft unsnaps.
I recall threads where people didn't get the driveshaft fully snapped into the transmission, and after a few days it works its way out. So when you put it back together make sure it snaps fully into place (inboard and outboard). |
