Default Accord lover in Appling

Hello;
thought I'd introduce myself and ask a question same thread. (because I don't know where in the forum to pose the question).
I live in Appling Ga. (near Augusta) and own two Accord EX's one is a 98 w/225K the other 2000 w/130K. Both still doing nicely though my daughter drives the 98 now instead of me.
These are wonderful automobiles and from all accounts with minimal maintenance they just keep going like Energizer Bunnies which is right up my alley where cars and appliances are concerned.
I do want to ask about a valet key. I understand the purpose but am perplexed by how they work as the teeth are identical on both ignition and valet shanks. Is there some difference in the embedded chip which engages the trunk lock to refuse entry of the valet as opposed to the ignition key? Thanks for any and all replies and my apologies if this is posted somewhere other than it should be.
Jim

I think what's different is a groove milled into the side of the key. Anyway, it's something mechanical about the key, not the immobilizer chip. Try it in the trunk, you won't get it to work mechanically.

Default Valet Key

I know that it won't work in the trunk. It will not even allow insertion past a 1/4 inch into the lock which is why I thought there was some difference in the shank. Maybe I jjust need to give it a closer visual to determine the differences.
Thanks
Jim
