Default Air Conditioning Randomly Blows Cold

Does anybody have suggestions?

I ask around & majority of the people say it may be the expansion valve (have no clue where does that located) or it may be electrical problems or the climate control panel....

Thanks

stop guessing and diagnose it, or have a shop diagnose it.. i would be surprised if it was the exp valve,, most likely sounds like an electrical issue,, chk the a/c compressor clutch gap,, if it is too wide it will make a/c compressor cut out ..relay could cut out at times,, , in other words ,it needs to be properly diagnosed before you condemn anything

well I did took it to a mechanic last week
& all he told me was that the freon was low & needs to be charged

I'll go ask a different mechanic when I get a chance
& the relay works fine (that was the first thing I checked)

How do I check the A/C compressor Clutch Gap??? Just curious....

Use a feeler gauge between the clutch disc and the clutch pulley.

for the 4 cyl 2000 year model it calls out gap is 0.5mm [0.020"]

dang now I gotta find that damn feeler gauge

Another curious question, how do I check if the relay is bad or not?

Thanks

There is ONE SINGLE WIRE going to the compressor clutch; when the A/C is on does it have power?
Dang now ya gotta go find that test light...................

Unplug the connector that goes to the compressor. Start the car. Turn on A/C. Measure voltage from the connector to ground (engine block) using a volt meter.

You should have 12V.

Ok I checked the voltage for the compressor & the reading is 0.
I check the reading 3 times. 1st was 0. 2nd was 1.20. 3rd was 10.11.
What do I do from here?

Thanks

Does the compressor clutch engage when you turn on the a/c?

It is the metal plate that sits outside of the pulley. It should spin at the same rate as the compressor pulley only when the a/c is turned on.
