Default Brake Fluid Reservour

I'm new to cars, my accord 93 has the master cylinder on the right side where brake fluid goes (obviously) but on the left side of the engine there is another sort of reservour with a cap that say only dot 3 or 4 to be used. Now what is that reservour for and should it always be full? Mine is dry..i think. any special way to fill it?

Maybe the fluid reservoir for the ABS??

It should be full, unless a previous owner has disabled the ABS system.

How do I know if the Abs system was disabled?

Probably a fuse for it.

The only reservoirs I can think of that use brake fluid are the brake, ABS, and clutch which you don't have, so it must be ABS.

When you first turn on the car, look for an ABS warning lamp in the cluster. It should come on for a couple seconds while the system does it's self-checkout.

You don't say what model (DX, LX, EX...) so we don't know if it was originally equipped with ABS. But the fact that is HAS a reservoir, says it must be.

ABS light should come on initially, and then shut off when it checks out. An ABS light on all the time means there is a problem. I think ABS was an option for the LX, all my LXs have not had ABS.

Well, Majestic actually lists the anniversary edition, and it DOES come with ABS.

Since the reservoir is empty, and the lamp never comes on, I would GUESS that a previous owner has pulled some fuses. Perhaps it quit working some time ago.

Do the brakes work?

There should be a fusebox just for the ABS, nearby that reservoir.

This is getting more technical, so it doesn't really belong in the "WELCOME NEWBIE" area. I'm gonna move it to general tech.

Only way I've seen to disable ABS light is to remove the bulb. Previous owner may have pulled instrument panel and removed bulb.

To repair, you'll need to replace the ABS bulb (if that's the problem) to obtain fault codes for a repair cue.

good luck
