Default Brake rotor

I have a cracked front brake rotor on my 97 Accord, 2.2L.

Autozone has the rotor for about 40.00 $

I do most of my own maintenance on my car, but not sure about front rotor replacement.

Does anyone know how difficult this job is to do, and if any special tools are needed? Trying to decide doing it myself to save a couple bucks or is it best to let a shop handle.

Thanks and TGIF!

See DIY section, Rotor Replacement (Hub over Rotor).

It's a fairly tough job. I did this on three Honda and Acura products recently and used slightly different method, but similar. The suggested tool is worth the cost, IMO. I would disagree w/ procedure on one issue. Remove the knuckle rather than remove the axle from trans. Personal preference, but I've had problems w/ re-installing axle into trans (lock ring jamming). If you can find my posts (doubtful w/ current forum software problems), you can see a more detailed writeup of how I tackled the job.

good luck

It's going to be a real pain changing that out. I was able to remove the 36mm castle nut on the axle and swing the knuckle around the get at the bolts on the backside and pound the disc off.

Decided to bite the bullet. Let the local Honda shop do the job for me. Cost for 2 new front rotors installed.....360.00, hope not to have to replace those again.

Thanks for the advice though.
