Default Brakes, TAS Pro?

Hi all,

I was quoted a little more than $1,000 for replacing my front & rear rotors & pads, so am deciding to do them myself. I was looking on the TAS Auto website and they have a package of exactly what I"m looking for. Does anyone know or have any opinions on this brand of rotors/pads?

What brand rotors would you guys recommend? For now I'm thinking Honda but not sure if Brembo or any others would be better.

Thanks for any help!

If you have the money, I would go with Honda rotors. 2nd choice Brembo.

I'm not sure who makes the TAS brand.

Thanks

For normal driving would slotted or cross-drilled rotors be of any purpose? I'm guessing not but figure I'd see what you guys think

I would verify you need rotors by taking them to a place that cuts them unless they are really torn up. You might be surprised.

AKE BONO or Nissin Brakes would be the choice of champions...

i would go with factory or brembo,, i have had very good results with both,,and factory pads ,,,,,,,AND since we do not know the year of your car ( input it in your signature ) doing a rotor replacement could be a very easy job ( post 97 ) or a harder one for ( 90-97 )front rotors

I agree with kris ,,if rotors are thick enough they can be machined ,, saves you some money

Thanks guys. The dealer told me they were worn down and needed to be replaced, but other than that I haven't checked the diameter of them.

Its a 2000, any tips or things specific to this generation I should know? I've replaced the rotors and pads in a 2001 Saturn wagon and ended up having to bleed the brakes after but other than that didn't have much of a problem. I'll pick up a Haynes (lost my old one).

You shouldn't have any problems with the 98+ accords.

If you had a 90-97 accord, then the job would have been much more difficult.

I was told by the dealership I needed new rotors but they barely cleaned up within specs. I am not saying the dealership mislead you. It can be a judgment call or policy. At the dealership I worked at if the rotors were black they got replaced. They never cut back rotors or drums, either new or just pads. Nissin are one of the brake pad companies Honda Uses. On my 2003 they were marked Nissin in the Honda box. I spent some hours trying to sort out the aftermarket rotors and pads and ended up with Honda as I couldn’t decide but didn’t need rotors.

Thanks guys for the responses.

So just to verify, these Brembo blank rotors would be just as good if not better than the Honda brand rotors? Just double checking in case I'm missing anything before I order them, look like a pretty good price, other sites are selling them for $67 or so each.

And these Hawk HPS Street brake pads aren't the ones where when heated up work best, as in racing brake pads, right?

Thanks for the help!
