Default a/c shutdown

I have a 98 accord ex, 2.3L, AT, when riding down the road the a/c unit goes off, sometimes comes back on, sometimes not. When the a/c shuts down, the indicator lights on the climate control panel all go off, fan still works , but no indicator lights or compressor works. Sometimes while riding, the a/c just comes back on, if I turn off the car and crank it back up, say 15 minutes later, it will start working again.

There is a way to check for HVAC codes on your car. It is simple to do and may help identify a problem.

Turn ignition switch to ON (II position).
Turn fan switch to OFF.
Turn Recirculate to ON (light is on).
Press (light turns off) and hold the recirculate switch. The light will turn on for 2 seconds then blink code(s). Count the blinks. Looks like there are codes 1, 2, and 3. There will be very short pauses when a code is flashing, and a two second pause between codes.

They way I read the manual, you should continue to press the recirculate button while the codes flash.

Default a/c shutsdown

my 98 accord, auto, 2.3 EX has a climate control issue more than a a/c issue. When the climate control indicator lights "would" come on, before they went intirely off, they would blink twice then shut off, fan would still run but CCpanel lights would go off and not work, at first they would come back on but now they have shut off and they have no response, lika a loss of power, no fuses are blown, what to do?

Test it out....at the end of the day I'd bet - buy nothing on a bet - the PCB in the HVAC unit has gone out. Some have repaired them with a jumper wire, other just bought a replacement.

It is a pretty common issue with the 6th gen Accord's, do a quick goole search and you will find all kinds of information about it.
