Thanks for your input, JerryM. I like the spreadsheet idea. I'm always having trouble finding stuff so I'm trying train myself to become more organized. It saves a lot of time and hassle to take things in small steps rather than to try to sort through tons of random information at the last minute. I'm discovering that with my finances.

I have a 2006 Accord 4 cyl and my low fuel light comes on with 4.5 gallons left. But, don't use the fuel light to gauge MPG. Start with a completely full tank. I set the pump handle to a slow speed auto fill position and stop when it shuts off. Set one of the trip odomiters to zero. Drive 350 +/- miles and re-fill the gas tank totally in the same fashion as your initial fill. If you're really **** like me, you may even want to go to the same station and same pump facing the same direction....(ok, I no longer do this .

One other thing, your car is new. Your mileage may actually get better in 10K to 20K miles as the engine breaks in. Mine has improved after about 18K. Make sure you keep your tires inflated properly when completely cold (before driving anywhere). Good luck....JK

Hi everyone, thank you for all your input. I've been away from the forum for a while because my mother was recently killed in a car accident and half the people at my company were laid off in the past two months. It's been a crazy time lately.

Anyway, in case anybody was wondering, I have been trying the method of resetting the trip odometer to 0 when I fill up and only filling up to when the cut off kicks in (I used to overfill). My results so far have been about 26MPG and change on the low end and 29MPG and change on the high-end (which, oddly enough came when I was driving a bunch of people around during the week of the funeral. Normally, it's just me commuting to and from work). My tires are properly inflated (32PSI front, 30PSI rear) and I wash it at least once a week. I take very good care of it because my mom helped me buy it. Well, I hope everyone is doing better than I've been doing. Later.

I am very sorry to hear about your mom. My momdied suddenly (heart failure)on October 3, 2004 so I sort ofknow what you are going through there. Only time will heal your pain, but it will get better.

BTW - I normally get around 31.5 mpg in my 2000 5spd in city driving. I get about 33MPG highway. The engine has almost 120k on it.
