Exclamation Cam Shaft:0

Hello- Everyone
I have a 00 Honda Accord LX. It has 215K miles. I maintained the vehicle, but a week ago it would not start. I did all the regular cks: battery/fluids etc..all good. Vehicle was towed to mech a few days later, I got the call: Cam Shaft is broken I had timing belt replaced late last year 2013..reg oil changes....I'm the original owner. Per the mech, which i have used for a while now: approx $700-$900; the dlr approx $1100... Everyone tells me I have gotten my money's worth out of the car & basically it's time for another vehicle. Has anyone else had to deal with this? Thanks in advanced...

book value is probably way more than the cost of repair, depending on what part of the country you're in and the body and interior.
Did he determina cause for a broken camshaft? I dealt with some Kia's that did this (just snapped after 50-60k) but most of the time on other cars there's some underlying problem that causes it (Timing belt skipped, bearing ran dry on oil and seized, etc)

If you're happy w/ car suggest repairing and continuing to drive. Cost of $900 is less than two car payments on new. If you drive for 1-2 yrs, you've got your money back and restored car to a reaonable condition for re-sale. W/O repair, it's headed for nacker.

good luck

If you cam snapped behind the cam sprocket It's failure was most likely from the timing belt installed too tight. You have to consider if you put the money into your Accord and it gets totaled in an accident like happened to my 2003 is it a good investment. I got lucky on mine as State Farm gave me way over what the NADA book listed for excellent condition but you never know.
