Default Can I clear my Check Engine codes? 1998 Accord

My car has the check engine light on. Is there a way I can check the codes by jumpering a couple wires and reading the flashes, or do I need an OBD2 scanner to do the job? Thank you.

WARNING!!!: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.HOW TO OBTAIN TROUBLE CODES MANUALLY (6Th Gen Accord - V6 & I4)1) Find the Data Link Connector (DLC) located under the instrument panel in the driver's side.2) Jump terminals 8 and 13 by connecting them with a wire/cable

DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC)3) Turn the ignition key to ON[/b] and observe the "CHECK ENGINE[/b]" light. It will flash the trouble codes. For example: 2 long flashes, pause and then 3 short flashes = 23 = P0325 = Knock sensor circuit fault. One short flash = 1. One long flash = 10. If there is no trouble codes, the light will not flash.Flashes.....

Thumbs up Clearing Check Engine Codes on 1998 Honda Accord

THIS WORKED!

I had got my car serviced at AAMCO for tramsmission problems (second gear was shot). After i got the car back, i noticed my Check Engine light was still on and then after a couple of days it would not start in the parking lot... then all of a sudden it started. This happened two more times before it would no longer start. The started would click once, but that's it. I purchased the CarMD device, which gave me two trouble codes - P0420 and P1739. Anyway, to make a long story short, after searching through tons of blogs and forums (and trying the basic stuff - checking fuses, gas cap, trani fluid, etc. nothing pointed to anything), so I thought of trying to clear the codes and seeing if that would do anything. That's when i came across this site, and saw your note about HOW TO CLEAR THE ENGINE CODE by pulling out fuse #13 (labeled Clock/Backup) on the passenger side. I did it and lone behold that cleared the code... and guess what... the engine started right up! Neither code has returned, so there';s a good chance that the idiots at Cherry Hill NJ AAMCO did not reset the codes when they finished thur work. THANK YOU

I just did this too and it works awesome. Check engine light on, P1259 code, found I was low on oil, added some, reset the light and whamo, back in business. Now I just need to figure out why I was low on oil. Maybe because my awesome 99 Accord has 140K miles on it and must start burning oil at SOME point.

But it still runs like a CHAMP. It has NEVER malfunctioned except for piddly stuff like the blower. I've been through so many tires and brake pads I can't count... If my Accord was a woman, I'd marry her and father her children. Don't tell my wife...

Wow this is an amazing piece of info...
But OBD 2 CAN code readers are very cheap now. You can get one for $20 from Amazon. I would just use them for most accurate result. Plus they let you clear the code with ease. I bought one of these scanners and was able to use it for my 2005 Accord hybrid.

P0420 is your catalytic converter, if it comes back refer to this video.
