Can't find R-12, don't want 134... is there a compromise??
Can I top off with some 134?? The air is still pretty cold... As long as it gets pretty cool pretty fast, it has enough to not damage the compressor by running it- right? Do honda compressors automatically shut off if refrigerant is too low??
Thanks
Thanks

Can someone tell me if this "Freeze 12" https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/for...-accord-35517/ stuff is actually similar to R-12 or 134A?? Or what it is??? Also, some places I read say it's not mixable with R-12, some say they only say that for legal reasons.... etc.. thanks

I found this too Freeze 12, Duracool and Envirosafe 12a? [Archive] - Turbobricks Forums
"Most of these easy to use R12 replacements are some combination of dried propane and butane. "
"freeze 12 is synthetic r12. can replace r12 and works almost as well. duracool is for r134a, has less volume, and puts less of a load on the compressor. "
unsure about envirosafe

"No, there is no such thing as 'synthetic' R12. No, not all alternative refridgerants are created equal."

Duracool and Envirosafe:
They are flamable, but work better than Freeze 12. In fact, Envirosafe has a $3,000,000 insurance policy and no one has filed a claim yet.
Freeze 12: It is full of r134a which is highly toxic and can easily kill you if it leaks into the cabin in even the smallest amounts. Also, if it comes in contact with flame it turns into something even nastier (hydrofloric acid maybe, I can't remember).
Would you rather blow up with really cold AC or die from poisoning with moderately okay AC? I will take envirosafe thank you.
EDIT- And if the Envirosafe starts leaking into the cabin you will smell it because they add cent to it. The same can not be said for r134a/Freeze 12. I don't know about duracool."
"L0AD 'O SH**T
I can't remember, too, but I'm senile.
What's your excuse?

You can still buy R-12 via ebay. Try asking some local mechanic shops too, I use to know some shops that bought huge surplus of them years ago or that they knew suppliers with the huge canisters remaining. Years ago, I even gave away for free some R-12 cans I had, as my cars no longer used them.

It seems like before I try to **** with it and end up ****ing it up or harming myself, this guy will do the work for $40 + $50lb of r-12 so .... lol.. I don't know about the hi side the low side the chemical type this chemical type that and don't need a degree over $100
Anyone know how much these stupid things hold? The air is cold, just not freezing. It's beyond "cool" so it shouldn't need much. I figured on stopping at 1lb added no matter what
Do I need to have them add any oil or does R-12 have some in it or what??
Thanks guys

If you are taking it to them, they will test the presssures and add only what is needed. Look under the hood for a sticker, I think there is only like 23~28 oz of freon in the system, so if they have to add any....16oz should be fine.
humm...I wonder what I could get for the three cans of r12 I have in the garage?
