Default Change battery as part of maintenace or not?

My battery is probably about 5 years old. Should you change it as part of general maintenance ... possibly every 3 years? The car starts pretty well but I was wondering if an old battery causes other parts of the car (other than starter) to run harder or not? Is there any benefit?

The older battery won't hurt anything, but one of these days it's going to leave you stranded. If you get a cold snap or a day with a drastic temperature change (we get them a lot in florida), than it may totally go dead on you and refuse to hold a charge.

I agree. At five years old it shows great smarts to change it now before you get that horrid sound LATE one night.......click click, click click!!!!!!!!!!!!

You will notice the ignition difference with new battery fully powered. Thought you current battery isn't failing, it's time for a replacement. Don't get stranded!!
