An Update....Nearly 700 miles and almost two weeks after replacing the O2 sensors at the cat converter, The CEL did not go on. Chiovnidca said it was the cat but i guess not. I'm lucky that its not. That would be a pain

why is changing a cat convertor a pain? by a new one, take to shop and have welded in? or in my case, bust out the sawzall and weld myself...I know finding a decent shop sometimes sucks but I don't see the hard part in it? don't get upset or nothing....I'm just curious why you would find it a pain?

RE: Check Engine Code P0420
yup. a cat convertor replacement is easy 500-1000 replacement. One shop wanted 800 bucks for the whole job includeds the convertor and labor. Convertor alone is a 400-500 item. Don't got that cash to fork out.

for a cat????!!!! what are they made of freaking gold and platinum?? lol! that's just a ridiculous price.....is getting a hi flow after market any better/cheaper? I know stuff on my acura was insanely priced (OBX just finally got headers made for it less than 2 years ago (legend model)) but that's just nuts. $800 would get the single finger salute from me.

you can get a cat from Bosal , oem replacement ( no welding ) for around 200 dollars .. But from dealer cat is around $ 500-550, 2 gaskets $ 9 each, tech fees ( labor) around $ 60-80 ..

Nice!Is Cat replacement as "simple" as unbolting old(with a lot of swearing, bloody nuckles, and liquid wrench)andbolting up new? Or is it necessary to have access to a welder and possibly a cutting torch? I only ask cause I haven't gotten under the car to check it out for myself.

When i use to live in wisconsin and doing exh work,, the TORCH was my best friend ..If you reside in a state where exh system gets really rusty , DO NOT try to unbolt any part of exh system till you heat up the nuts,, torch works GREAT. once hot, removing the nuts is real easy.. If you need to go that route , you might want to make sure that you have new nuts before you even start the job and i would install new gaskets as well..
