Thought I would try it here first before I go to a Civic forum. My mom's 04 Civic LX auto has the check engine light on when the key is turn to the second position. It goes out after about 10sec (the battery and oil light goes out a little bit after which is normal). The light is not on when the engine is running. She said that she has never seen the check engine light on before and only noticed it this morning before she started the car. Is the check engine light suppose to stay on if there really is a problem?

 

She just didn't notice it before. It's supposed to come on as the ECU checks itself.

 

that is normal,. chk engine lite will come on when key is on and shut off within 4-7 seconds
