Default Clutch Working Backwards???

Whats up guys, I'm new here and new to Hondas in general My transmission in my 96 Accord 5 speed 2.2 lost 5th gear, seems like a fairly common problem from what I've seen in the forums. Anyhow, I got the tranny in and everything put back together and the clutch is working backwards...as in, when its out the car will coast but when its in the gears are grabbing!! I haven't started it yet because I don't know whats going to happen. Does any one know have a clue as to what I've done?? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've put a ton of hours into changing this tranny already!!!
Thanks,
Brian

That's really bizarre - I'm thinking something like the throw-out lever not being hooked properly into the throw-out bearing??

I had this problem with my wife's (former) '94 LX. After I replaced the slave cylinder, the pedal would stay on the floor. The clutch is an over-center thing - it is hard to press at first then gets easier after you pass a certain point. If the linkage at the pedal/master cylinder is not adjusted correctly, what you describe is exactly what happens. Free fix - rebleed the system (use a vacuum pump if you have it), then readjust at the pedal for now. If that fails, then the master cylinder spring may be bad, or the bore scored and catching the piston on the return stroke. There's also a (isolation?) valve in the clutch hydraulic line at the trans that sometimes sticks.
