Default Code PO 401

The check engine came on while I was in Atlanta on Saturday, I had to drive to the nearest dealer where I was staying. Had to leave the 96 Accrod EX-L at Nalley Honda in Union Cityjust outside of Atlanta. Come to find out the ports needed to be cleaned and had to perform induction system cleaning.

Thecode is in the subject line, I have never heard of thisproblem all, the labor was $310.82 the total bill was $383.72

It's just an EGR port problem apparently.... that sucks on the charges, it sounds like it was something that a little bit of work and a can of sea foam would have cleared up...

Well here's a link to show what they did to fix the problem

http://members.troublecodes.net/hond...5AccordEGR.htm

I'd like to know how many hours they charged.

FWIW Seafoam would not have helped this problem

I probably should have clarified... I don't think a can of Seafoam alone would have fixed it but a little bit of work would have... I just threw the comment about seafoam in there because I assumed that if something was clogged due to build up then the rest of the motor probably could have used a cleaning too.... Thanks for that post though for a DIY fix, great, easy to follow information....

I printed out the DIY EGR PORT fix and did it in a hour with only a socket wrench, a poker and some cleaner...and with hardly any knowledge of my intake system. The DIY instructions are clear and precise with photos to boot. I can't beleive cleaning the ports was so expensive. Like I said, I did it in an hour, outside in the brisk philadelphia air, with no experience.

things to do this week-end with help from this site.

Changing out my Manual Trans Fluid... with Honda MTF,
Changing out my cooling system,
Replacing Plugs.
Cleaning Fuel Injectors.

Be certain that you don't use bosch spark plugs... .they don't work well with honda's, stick to the green anti-freeze and a funnel with a long neck and a small tip can help IMMENSELY when re-filling the MT Fluid.... Just some side notes...
