Condener Fan Racket on 97

I have a 97 Accord 4 cyl. with 134,000 miles that recently started making a loud racket whenever the A/C was turned on. Traced the noise to the condenser fan on the driver's side. So I took apart the condenser fan and noticed there was fine black powder on the inside of the fan hub and the hub appeared to be slightly oblong in shape so I'll be replacing both the motor and the fan. I ordered parts from Majestic so they were cheaper than what my local dealer charges.

Will report back after I replace the parts. In the meanwhile ... no A/C. :(

Still awaiting parts, so I tried turning on the A/C today with the condenser fan removed and wiring tied up. The A/C seemed to work just fine; perhaps it's not optimum, but it kept me cool. Kept an eye on the temperature gauge and it was rock solid in the normal range.

Now I won't mind waiting as much for the parts to arrive.

Keep an eye on the temperature gauge, especially if you are at a stop. When the car is moving, enough air can pass through the condenser cool it.

Yes thanks, I do check it often while stopped. The radiator fan still operates, at least while the A/C is on.

you need the a/c fan as well.........without it , the pressure on the a/c system will rise when a/c is on, thus can cause issues, ( leaky 0-rings , etc etc ),,I would install it ASAP

Parts are on the way ... should arrive next week. Until then I'll keep the A/C off unless driving at speed. It's difficult to tough it out while driving during Summer here in Arizona.

Finally got the fan and motor from Majestic. I replaced, both the motor and fan along with some of the hardware. Re-installed the condenser fan assembly and fired it up. Noise is all gone!

Here is the old fan hub filled with a fine black powder ... probably from the motor grinding away.

Re-assembled condenser fan assembly with new motor and fan.
