Default A confused 98 Accord EX

Somebody please help me. I have a 98 Accord EX 4 cyl. Sometimes when driving and the car hits 4k rpms the engine cuts power like the rev limiter is cutting on. Also, the car sometimes stalls when stopping at a light. I have done a tune up plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor button, pcv and air filter. Also changed EGR valve. Still no change. There is no set situation which makes the car do this. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance

How long has the car been doing this? It sounds like you might not be getting any fuel, fuel filter change? Check those vaccum lines as well.

I just bought it about 3 weeks ago. It doesn't do it all the time so it could have done it with the previous owner. I thought the fuel filter was part of the fuel pump and was considered a "lifetime" filter? The CEL came on today on the way home from work. I am not sure if the mod to the EGR port has been done or not. Is there any way to find out if the mod and or recalls have been done?

Get the code read at autozone, will be free. Get the vin number and call your local dealership, they can look it up to see if its been done to your car.

Codes are P1259, P0401, P0420. About the fuel filter would I have to change the whole pump?

Fuel filter is mounted on firewall in engine compartment. You should release the pressure in the fuel system, put rags underneath filter, and then remove. Once you look at it it should be pretty straight forward. If not, let us know, we're here to help.

My Accord does not have a fuel filter on the firewall. Any other suggestions?

Oh, sorry about that, I didn't see that it was a 98. Let me look around a little...

p1259......vtec malfunciton,, needs to be diagnosed

p0401.... egr low flow.. most likely you need to have the bulletin done ,, clean the passages

p0420... cat below treshhold,,, most likely need a new cat convertor

My advice take it to the dealer some of this stuff could be an honda extended warranty..
How many miles on car ??

As for the dying it could be the ignit switch , have the delaer chk if the recall has been done ..
