Crank Pulley removal
Hit the nut on the crank pulley with my impact wrench, no budge. Put a breaker bar and a three foot pipe on it, almost tipped the engine and stand over. It loosens counter-clockwise, correct? I do not want to twist anything off so I end up replacing the crank. '96 Accord EX, VTEC, automatic. Thanks

RE: Crank Pulley removal
Yes, it's a normal CCW to loosen bolt. It can be hellishly tight and difficult to break loose. I've never heard of anyone twisting the bolt head off,...yet.
Lot's of posts on this subject in the forum. A search should find them. good luck |
RE: Crank Pulley removal
Congrats you've found the tightest bolt on the car, as stated lots of posts about this and that thing is REALLY tight, have someone stand on the engine stand to keep it from tipping and try a bigger breaker bar, put a jack stand underneath the head of the socket wrench to support it, also, hose it down with some wd-40 or other loosening stuff a few times and let it penetrate then try it.

I've heard that 3/4" impacts with 500+ ft. lbs. can get them loose... otherwise if the motor isn't in the car you might be SOL.
