CV Axles for 96 Accord
1 Attachment(s)
I'm looking to replace both of the front axles on my car. Here's what I've got:
I've tried ordering online in the past and had bad results. The driver's side was in desperate need of being replaced (lots of clicking on turns) so I ordered this part from Amazon: As it turns out, that isn't the right part as the part I need has a mounting bracket near the middle. I've attached an image of an exploded look at the axle I actually need. I've highlighted the mounting bracket in yellow to show what I'm talking about. I've found the part number to be Honda Part No.: 06444-SV2-507RM if that helps at all. Anyone know where I can get one of these and not have to wait 4 months for it to be shipped? Thanks, David |
I'm confused. Is the CV joint (#2) or the intermediate shaft (#14)? What is wrong with that bracket?
The CV joint is #2 in the parts diagram.s #6/7 can be pulled from the bracket you highlighted. Looks like the bracket is sold as an assembly for the intermediate shaft (#14). |
I have the entire assembly. As far as I know, there is nothing wrong with the intermediate shaft.
The reality is that I'm not super familiar with how axles work or how they're sold, so I didn't realize that the two were separate parts. To make sure I've got this, I should be able to buy the CV Joint (#2) and attach it to the intermediate shaft (#14) that I already have. Is that correct? Thanks! David |
That's right. You don't need #14, unless there's something wrong with the components of that assembly. Generally, the CV joints especially the outboard joint at the wheel gets the clicking noise.

Here are a few videos on how to do this job. The video is on a 90-93 accord, but your 96 is almost identical.
You can see the bracket at 2:33 in this video after he pries out the inboard piece of the CV joint. Here is another good video. |
