either by ur VIN I think its the 8th or 10th digit (one will b a 1 for ur year so it will be the other one) that will give u the engine code which u can put into google (try "honda vin decoder") and follow links. Also it will b stamped on the engine block somewhere along w/ the serial number.

Found ur answer. I just use google (for everything) I put in "f23a1 f23a4" and it gave me anything w/ those 2 engines in it. I found exactly what u were lookin for on Wikipedia (that & google are probably the 2 best sites).
Under Wikipedia is "Honda F Engines"
F23A1 is 150 hp/152 ft-lb
F23A4 has ULEV certification is 148 hp/150 ft-lb, different exhaust manifold, a 32-bit ECU which uses a wideband O2 sensor when compared to the F23A1.
There is more look it up.

There is a sticker on the timing belt cover with the engine code on it. Check to see if it is still in tact.

I could be wrong but I read somewhere that the 4 (is the ULEV engine) and the 1 is the (VTEC engine)

ULEV 148hp
VTEC 150hp

hope that helps

They're both V-TEC, but the ULEV engine used a more restricted exhaust manifold with a front wideband O2 sensor so it lost 2hp, but if you use the exhaust manifold from the non ULEV you will get back that 2hp
