Default Ding/Click when I turn the steering wheel

Hello! I'm new to the forum but I'm an Honda Accord lover... they are all I ever had and I'm on my second... an 08 LX-P. Anyways, whenever I turn the wheel I get a metal click or ding sound, usually at the same point both right and left. Its not repetitive at all just one noise. I recently took the cover off and tried to see if I could figure it out and got nothing. But I did take a video and uploaded to youtube to help explain, check it out HERE. I'm not a mechanic by any means but I love trying to fix little stuff myself. Let me know if you can help me, thanks!

It may be the steering column lower bearing mis-set. The noise will probably get progressively worse. The fix is to replace the steering column. Somewhat common problem on some 2008-2009 and a few later Accords. Here is the TSB:

Default Thanks!

Having very little to no car experience is this something I could try myself???

If not, how much do you think it will cost to fix?

Thanks!

It's not a terribly difficult job if you are very careful; but, the driver's airbag will need to be removed and you have to disconnected the battery for a short while to be safe.

If you look at the Honda TSB in the above link, under warranty, the dealer will be reimbursed by Honda corp. at a rate of 1.1. hour to replace the steering column and .5 hour to check front alignment. Figure the dealer will quote you labor probably based on a higher labor guide, as Honda corp. usually reimburses the dealer at discount. Most dealer's labor rate would be $110 (may be higher or lower based on your location).

The Honda steering column is Honda part number, 53200-TA0-A12, list price $314.15, internet dealer price around $227.75 plus shipping.

So, this is a guess for getting the work done at a dealer, may be higher or lower, $490 - $550. $314.15 plus tax for part, 1.6 or more hours labor @ $110/hour = $176 ; ~ total $491 plus tax.

Check your PM in a moment.

Default Need to contact Honda Motor Corp

I have had the exact same issue. Although it is not currently classified as a recall it is concerning. I spoke with Honda Motor Corp today and was informed that they are starting to receive a number of calls on this. The more calls they receive the greater likelihood they will issue a recall. If you have already paid you may be eligible for reimbursement. Please everyone call if you can. 1-800-999-1009
